 | | | What does YTTS stand for? YTTS is an acronym for Youth Technical Training Society as conceived by its compassionate founder Vineet Khanna. Although YTTS was started to empower youth to become self sufficient even if they had no or little education, gradually the Society widened its scope to underprivileged children and women of slum areas. | | | Who runs this organization? YTTS is an NGO that runs mostly on donations and contributions from the privileged citizens of Chandigarh. It conforms to the patterns of NGOs as laid down by the state and has a managing committee that handles its affairs. At present there are some accomplished educationists, retired service officers and business people who form the managing committee. The office is at Karuna Sadan, Sector 11, Chandigarh. | | | How can a child enroll For PUSTAK? YTTS has several centers in slums across the city, which makes it easy for a child to enroll in the school nearest his home. There are representatives present at the centers on working days who help in enrolling the child quickly. Alternately, the child can be brought to the office in Karuna Sadan, from where he/she will be guided to the appropriate center. | | | What help does YTTS offer destitute women? YTTS seeks to empower women rather than giving them financial aid. To achieve this end, vocational training is offered at various centers that can make women self sufficient and economically independent. Crafts are taught to women and sales are organized for their handiwork. Vama is the project that seeks to empower women. VAMA is a Vocational Training & Empowerment Programs for underprivileged women that include stitching, embroidery, Self Help Group and more. Through VAMA our endeavor is to lead women to self-reliance through skill imparting & vocational training. | | | What is the aim of YTTS? YTTS works for "Struggling Humanity". Through its projects it endeavors to provide functional literacy to the street children and ultimately get them rehabilitated into the mainstream by getting them admitted into government schools. | | | When was YTTS started? The Society was initiated in 1980 and formally registered in 1986 under the name Youth Technical Training Society. One of the motives was to rehabilitate youth who were misled during the times of militancy and terrorism in Punjab. Later the focus widened and YTTS included project for street children under Pustak and destitute women under Project VAMA as well. Eventually, after the political problem in Punjab was resolved, youth training was discontinued and Pustak & Vama took precedence. | | | What does YTTS do? As a part of its program, YTTS runs PUSTAK Schools, PUSTAK crèches for underprivileged working mothers, and VAMA centers for the empowerment of women by imparting VOCATIONAL TRAINING & skill enhancements. | | | WHERE ARE ITS CENTRES OF OPERATION? YTTS is running its projects in 14 slum/rural locations & poverty-ridden areas in and around Chandigarh, and also in Haryana. | | | WHAT IS THE STRENGTH OF ITS BENEFICIARIES? Since YTTS caters to the migratory population, the numbers are usually shifting during the months, but on an average, YTTS caters to almost 1000 children & approximately 400 women annually. | | | HOW DOES ONE JOIN YTTS AS A MEMBER? If you have the inclination, it is simple to become a YTTS member.
